Your front-page headline “Deaths tied to opioids climbing at record pace” (Aug. 23) should be a warning not to legalize marijuana in the state. This seems to be a starting point to escalate the drug situation, to some extent, as one thing leads to another.
Harsher sentences, fines and incarceration are all good ideas. I realize this would put a larger burden on the police and judicial system, but you have to start somewhere!
Also, instruction or “show and tell” talks in grades 8 through 12 should help.
