A house under renovation in Brunswick sustained minor fire damage Friday night.

A call reporting the fire on Bowdoin Street came in around 9 p.m., Fire Chief Ken Brillant said.

When crews arrived, they found a fire at the rear of the house. The fire spread up an outside wall and into the attic, but crews had the fire knocked down within about 15 minutes, Brillant said.

He said there was some damage to the rear of the building and crews had to pull down drywall to get into the part of the attic where the fire had spread, but damage from the fire, water and smoke was minimal.

Brillant said there was no one home and officials aren’t sure who is doing the renovation.

He said officials believe they know what started the fire, but want to talk to the contractor before disclosing the cause. Brillant said the fire isn’t considered suspicious.

No firefighters were hurt putting out the flames.
