FALMOUTH – What a setting this classic, expanded 1830 Cape enjoys. Its five beautifully green acres are enclosed at side and rear by the woods and trails and field of a Falmouth Land Trust preserve; its huge lawn extends to a barn and out to a vintage shed, an apple barn, and a little orchard of heirloom apple trees. Overlooking all is a deep, wraparound deck 54 feet long.

The deck is among a number of key updates carried out by the sellers. Full baths both upstairs and down were renovated, and a pretty powder room added. A new kitchen was created – one whose surfaces are granite, whose cabinetry is quarter-sawn oak, and whose high-end appliances include a six-burner Dacor gas range.

The nine-room home has plenty of “extras”: two fireplaces, one gas, one wood-burning; a brick-floored, skylit exercise room that accesses the deck; cool built-ins off the staircase; a large family room, the product of an expansion, in the south wing. In addition to the dining room, there’s a delightful, slightly sunken breakfast nook that gets abundant morning sun.

Completing the main level are a good-sized mud room, a bedroom that makes single-level living an option, and an office/study. Upstairs, on either side of the bath with soaking tub, the two bedrooms have character imparted by distinctive angles.

The barn, which was recently painted and has a newer floor, provides not only parking for two (potentially three) vehicles; it also has a workshop section and walkup storage. (And like the deck, the barn makes a great party venue.)

The home at 471 Blackstrap Road, Falmouth, is listed for sale at $419,000 by Marie Flaherty of The Flaherty Group in Westbrook. Annual taxes are $5,851.
