BAR HARBOR — The National Institute on Aging is awarding $25 million to the Jackson Laboratory and Indiana University to help speed up testing of therapies to fight Alzheimer’s Disease.
The Alzheimer’s Disease Precision Models Center will aim to create new mouse models for testing of drugs to fight the disease.
Republican Sen. Susan Collins, founder and co-chair of the Senate Alzheimer’s Task Force, says the center will help to accelerate the process of testing novel Alzheimer’s therapies “and eventually lead to treatments for the millions of Americans suffering from this devastating disease.”
More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Collins says that includes about 37,000 people in Maine.
