I’m a senior citizen, Maine born and raised. Now retired, I fill out medical questionnaires, scrutinize insurance documents, prioritize expenses, pray that Social Security and Medicare are left intact.

I’m not planning any vacations or doing anything frivolous; I’m just getting by. Basically, I try to live by the rules.

High on the list of my concerns is Maine’s upcoming ballot initiative on background checks, Question 3, which really only asks everyone to live by the rules.

I hope that this November, we can close loopholes in current law so firearms don’t fall into the wrong hands. We must protect vulnerable segments of our population, particularly domestic-abuse victims and children.

Please vote “yes” on Question 3. Lives depend on it. Thank you.
