PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Education will receive a federal grant to help low-income students pay for the cost of Advanced Placement tests.
The $67,184 grant is part of a $28.4 million award to 41 states from the U.S. Department of Education through its Advanced Placement Test Fee Program.
The money will reduce the cost of more than 1,700 AP exams for low-income students around the state, according to Maine senators Angus King and Susan Collins.
The Advanced Placement Test Fee Program is designed to boost the number of low-income students who can take the AP test. Most U.S. colleges grant credit for AP scores.
