The lockdown at Fryeburg Academy has been lifted and law enforcement officials are leaving the school, according to a dispatcher.

The school had posted a notice on its website Wednesday afternoon saying the school was in lockout and requesting people not come to the campus or call school numbers.

The notice was taken down from the website just after 4 p.m.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and the Fryeburg Police, including the department’s chief, had responded to the scene, a dispatcher said.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the lockdown.
