I grew up in a household of hunters and gun owners and learned from an early age the importance of treating guns with respect.
That’s why I’m supporting Question 3, which would require background checks for all gun sales.
Question 3 respects hunters and hunting traditions, while also helping to prevent dangerous people from getting guns. Under the proposal, a person can still loan or give a gun to a family member and go hunting or shooting with their friends without having to get a background check. Question 3 just closes a loophole in current law by treating all gun sales the same.
Maine is a safe place. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do more to keep guns away from felons and people who commit domestic abuse. I hope you’ll join me in voting “yes” on Question 3.
