A Coast Guard helicopter Saturday airlifted a man who had fallen 80 feet off a cliff in Acadia National Park.

Coast Guard officials said the helicopter was dispatched about 1:45 p.m. at the request of the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, which is in charge of inland search and rescue operations. A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the Air Force didn’t have a helicopter available to reach the man.

A rescue team rappelled down the cliff to help the man, according to the Coast Guard, but they needed a helicopter to carry him out to an ambulance waiting at a ballfield in Bar Harbor. The man was taken to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor, where he was being treated Saturday night for arm and leg injuries. The Coast Guard spokeswoman said the man’s injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

Further information, including the man’s name and condition and the location where the fall occurred, was not available Saturday night.
