Independent expenditures in the 2016 state legislative races

Outside groups have spent more than $3.3 million to influence elections to the Maine Legislature. That includes more than $2.2 million that was directed to 27 races for the Maine Senate. The law permits unlimited amounts of spending by political parties, businesses and interest groups seeking to influence legislative elections, however, the groups are not permitted to coordinate with the candidates' campaigns. The table below lists the "independent expenditures" reported thus far in 2016.
