A 10-car pileup in York last Thursday was caused by a 17-year-old driver from York who was talking on her cellphone when she ran a red light, police said.

The driver, who was not identified, was issued a summons for running the red light on the Spur Road as she entered Route 1 in York and for using a mobile device while driving on an intermediary license, York police Sgt. John Lizanecz said.

A dump truck driver who had the green light tried to avoid the car but crossed into oncoming traffic, turning the truck over and landing on several cars.

The driver faces a potential fine of $131 for the red light and a $370 fine for the use of a mobile device, Lizanecz said. Her name was not released because she is younger than 18.

One person suffered internal injuries in the crash, but is expected to fully recover, he said.
