A Warren woman has been indicted on three charges for allegedly defrauding state-run welfare programs of more than $10,000, according to WCSH-TV.

The three-page indictment handed down by a Knox County grand jury identifies the woman as 44-year-old Robin L. Snell of Warren. She was indicted in September on one charge of theft by deception and two counts of aggravated forgery. All three charges are Class B crimes.

Snell is scheduled to be arraigned in Rockland court Monday, according to WCSH.

According to the indictment, Snell told the Department of Health and Human Services that her husband was not living at home and was not contributing to the household’s income, WCSH reported. The indictment alleges that over an 11-year period Snell received benefits from several programs including Temporary Aid to Needy Families, SNAP (also known as food stamps), Maine Care and ASPIRE (Additional Support for People in Retraining and Employment).

The indictment says Snell defrauded the state of more than $10,000 over that period, but officials with DHHS told WCSH that they believe the figure exceeds $250,000.

A DHHS spokeswoman could not be reached for comment Thursday evening.

Attempts to reach Snell on Thursday evening were unsuccessful. Snell’s attorney, who was not identified by WCSH, denies the allegations, the station reported.
