Police were searching Monday for a man suspected of firing a gun Sunday night near an apartment building in Ellsworth.

Aaron Wagner, 41, of Ellsworth fired the gun, shattering the rear window of a vehicle with several people inside, police said.

He is wanted by police for reckless conduct with a firearm and aggravated criminal mischief. Police said he is wearing a yellow jacket and red boots. He has long blond hair.

The Associated Press reported that the town’s school superintendent closed public schools Monday as a precautionary measure during the manhunt.

Police said that Wagner fled on foot after shooting at the car. He was spotted a few hours later on Route 1A by an off-duty police officer.
