I have worked in the medical cannabis industry for nearly two decades, and I am voting “yes” on Question 1 to legalize, regulate and tax marijuana for adults.

I remember when everyone in the medical marijuana community supported legalization. We always believed it was unjust to arrest and punish people for possessing cannabis. Last year Maine arrested or cited 1,700 adults for cannabis possession.

Everyone in Maine’s medical marijuana community knows this plant can help people suffering from serious illnesses. We have watched debilitated patients take back control of their lives from crippling seizures and chronic pain. We always believed it was immoral to deny marijuana to suffering people just because they did not have one of only a dozen conditions approved by the state.

Legalizing marijuana for adult use alongside our thriving and expanding medical market is the right step for Maine, so I am voting “yes” on Question 1.
