A woman who was struck by a car on Forest Avenue near the University of Southern Maine campus Tuesday morning suffered a serious head injury, Portland police said.
The woman, identified as Brittany Weston, 23, of Portland is being treated for life-threatening injuries at Maine Medical Center, according to a statement from the Portland Police Department. Her condition was not immediately known.
Weston was attempting to cross Forest Avenue when she was struck at about 8:29 a.m. by a minivan operated Lukas Rosov, 35, of Portland, the police statement said. Weston was not in a crosswalk.
The speed limit along that stretch of Forest Avenue is 30 mph, but speed is not considered a factor in the crash.
Police spokesman Lt. Robert Martin said Rosov was given a blood alcohol test, which is standard for cases involving injury. The driver has not been cited, but police are still investigating.
