I’ve seen a lot of “No on Question 1” commentary that opposes legalization of cannabis in Maine on the grounds that the initiative will invite corporate control of Maine’s cannabis market.

The question and the proposed law may be imperfect, but justice too long delayed is justice denied.

If you vote “no,” and the question fails, you will be partly responsible for every negative externality (e.g., young people’s lives being ruined) that arises from every “illegal” incidence of purchase and consumption of cannabis over the next two or four or more years, until a better question is introduced.

So, to anyone who feels that strongly about it and would vote “no” for this reason, instead vote “yes” and then fight to get the law amended. Don’t vote “no” and thus contribute to continued injustice.
