NEW YORK — Rick Nash scored the tie-breaking goal with 1:21 remaining to lead the New York Rangers to a 5-3 victory over the Western Conference-leading Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

Nick Holden fired a shot from the point that was blocked by Edmonton’s Milan Lucic. Nash corralled the loose puck in front of the net and fired it past Oilers goalie Cam Talbot.

Kevin Hayes had a goal and two assists, Michael Grabner and J.T. Miller each had a goal and an assist, and Jesper Fast also scored for New York, which rallied from three one-goal deficits and won for the sixth time in seven games.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Patrick Maroon and Adam Larsson scored for the Oilers, who lost their third straight (0-2-1) after starting the season 7-1.

CAPITALS 4, JETS 3: Alex Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game in overtime as host Washington regrouped after blowing a three-goal lead in the third period to beat Winnipeg for its fourth consecutive victory.

The Capitals took a 3-0 lead on goals by Nicklas Backstrom, Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie.

Tobias Enstrom, Adam Lowry and Marko Dano scored in a nine-minute span for the Jets.

It was the third time in 11 games this season Winnipeg overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period to force overtime.

MAPLE LEAFS 2, SABRES 1: Mitchell Marner scored two goals and Toronto beat Buffalo for its first road victory of the season.

Frederik Andersen made 42 saves for the Maple Leafs, who snapped the Sabres’ four-game winning streak.

Marcus Foligno scored for the Sabres.

BLACKHAWKS 4, AVALANCHE 0: Corey Crawford made 38 saves in his second shutout in three games, helping host Chicago win its fourth straight.

Marian Hossa had two goals, Jonathan Toews also scored and the Blackhawks killed off three more penalties to run their streak to 12 after an awful start to the season for their penalty-killers.

Artemi Panarin added his fifth of the season off a slick pass from Patrick Kane in the third.

FLYERS 3, ISLANDERS 2: Claude Giroux scored the only goal in the shootout to carry Philadelphia to a victory at New York.

Travis Konecny and Jakub Voracek scored in regulation for the Flyers, who won their third straight.

Dennis Seidenberg and John Taveres had goals for the Islanders, and Jaroslav Halak stopped 40 shots.

PANTHERS 4, DEVILS 3: Vincent Trocheck scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, to lift Florida to a win at home.

Trocheck poked a rebound past Cory Schneider with 43.4 seconds left in overtime.

SENATORS 1, CANUCKS 0: Mike Condon made 27 saves in his Ottawa debut and the Senators blanked visiting Vancouver, the fourth time the Canucks have been shut out in five games.

Mike Hoffman scored for Ottawa in the second period.

NOTES

KINGS: The NHL suspended defenseman Tom Gilbert for three games for boarding Ducks forward Nick Ritchie during Tuesday’s game.

SABRES: Defenseman Zach Bogosian is out indefinitely with a sprained ligament in one of his knees.

Bogosian was hurt in the first period of Buffalo’s 2-1 win at Minnesota on Tuesday.
