Jake Knop did a little of everything and that added up to a lot, leading top-seeded Portland to a 55-7 win over fourth-seeded Oxford Hills/Buckfield in a Class A North semifinal Friday night at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The Bulldogs (8-1) will be home against Windham (6-3) for the regional final next weekend. Portland won their regular-season meeting on the road, 42-21.

Portland will be in its third regional final in four years.

Knop scored three times – twice as a running back and once as a receiver. He totaled 64 rushing yards on five carries and added 37 yards on three receptions. He also led the defense with eight tackles.

“(Knop) is just special,” said Bulldogs Coach Jim Hartman. “He can do it all out there. Knop is a heart-and-soul guy out there. He makes us go.”

Portland forced a three-and-out on the opening drive, and Vincent Pasquali scooped up a bouncing punt at the Bulldogs 45, slipped past a tackler and went 55 yards up the left sideline for a touchdown to make it 7-0.

The Bulldogs added another score late in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead when quarterback Issiah Bachelder ran around right tackle for a 3-yard touchdown to cap an eight-play, 65-yard drive.

Portland kept Oxford Hills from mounting any momentum for the rest of the half, and the Vikings went to halftime with just 23 yards of offense.

“We set the bar really high tonight. We wanted (to give up) no first downs, no big plays,” said Knop.

“That’s where they score all their points – 80-yard passes, 80-yard runs. We wanted to make sure we stopped them and our guys did it. We just weren’t letting them past the line of scrimmage.”

Portland added to its lead before the break, with Knop taking an inside handoff 20 yards untouched up the middle for a touchdown with 2:55 left in the second quarter to make it 21-0.

Portland expanded its lead early in the third quarter, making it 27-0 on a play-action touchdown strike from Bachelder to Knop, who made a sliding catch.

The Bulldogs stretched their advantage to 34-0 a few minutes later after Ben Stasium came up with his second interception of the game. On the next play, Dylan Bolduc (14 carries, 123 yards) took a handoff 72 yards for the score.

Portland came away with another quick turnover, this time with Franco Lindos recovering a fumble on the Oxford Hills 30. Bachelder then hit Lindos for a 30-yard touchdown on the next play to make it 41-0.

After a turnover on downs, Knop finished a long Portland drive with a plunge from the 1 with 11:52 remaining, extending the lead to 48-0.

Oxford Hills/Buckfield’s touchdown came with 6:35 remaining when Emerson Brown scored on a 19-yard run.

Pasquali capped the scoring for the Bulldogs moments later, taking the ensuing kickoff 80 yards.

Bachelder finished 6-of-7 passing for 91 yards and two touchdowns for Portland. He also carried 16 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.
