Rep. Jonathan Kinney, R-Limington, is running for re-election against Richard Fitzgerald, a Democrat from Buxton, in House District 22.

District 22 covers Limington and parts of Buxton, Limerick and Standish.

Kinney, 59, is seeking his third term in the House. In his responses to a Portland Press Herald survey, Kinney said he hopes to focus on reducing the income tax in Maine to 5 percent, and wants to continue to work toward a solution to the heroin and opiate epidemic. He opposes ballot proposals to require background checks for private gun purchases, raise Maine’s minimum wage to $12 an hour by 2020 and legalize recreational marijuana use.

Fitzgerald did not respond to survey questions about his background and positions on key issues.
