An elderly woman, her grandson and her cat escaped without injury from a house fire on Back River Landing in Boothbay Saturday morning.

The fire was reported at 7:54 a.m. The Boothbay Fire Department and three other departments from surrounding communities responded to the blaze, which started in a second-floor bedroom.

Fire Chief Dick Spofford said the house was heavily damaged. The Maine Fire Marshal’s offce was at the scene Saturday morning to help determine the cause of the fire, which is not suspicious, Spofford said.
