An Acton man who was driving an SUV that hit a pedestrian in a Sanford crosswalk has been cited by police for failure to yield.

Sanford Cpl. Matthew Gagne said Thomas Nelson Jr. was issued a summons following the accident Tuesday evening at Main and Roberts streets.

Nelson – his exact age was not available but police said he was in his 30s – could face a fine of $165. Gagne said it was raining at the time of the crash, around 5 p.m.

The pedestrian, 23-year-old Nicole Maltese of Shapleigh, was transported to Maine Medical Center with leg and head injuries. Gagne said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. A nursing supervisor at the hospital in Portland said late Tuesday that medical staff were still assessing Maltese’s condition.
