Waldoboro police said a 79-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning when his pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer truck on Route 1.

Police Chief Bill Labombarde identified the victim as Rody Conway, of Waldoboro, in a news release.

Conway was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Conway pulled into traffic from Bullwinkle’s Steak House parking lot around 9:30 a.m. when his truck collided with a tractor-trailer truck carrying dairy products. Conway died at the scene.

The driver of the milk truck, 31-year-old Andrew Pierce, of Palmyra, was not injured, but the impact of the collision caused the milk truck to roll on its side.

The accident prompted police to restrict travel to one lane of traffic for nearly eight hours while crews removed the tractor-trailer truck.

Labombarde said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Criminal charges are not expected to be filed.
