It seems, every so often, we need a reminder that we are a nation not of the political elite, but of, by and for the people. The media should have seen this coming. Bernie Sanders tapped into the movement from the left, when he drew tens of thousands of disaffected voters to his events.

Donald Trump drew tens of thousands of excited voters, without any help from celebrities from Beyonce to Bruce Springsteen, and without the help of a media that had temporarily set aside basic journalistic standards.

The movement sought to take back power from a would-be monarch who made law with his pen and his phone, under whom more was added to our national debt than was added during all previous administrations combined, according to Tami Luhby of CNN Money.

Recovering from a $20 trillion debt, restoring our leadership role in the world and draining the swamp will be hard work. We will prevail, however, because we are a nation of, by and for the people.
