A Raymond man who police say tried to strangle his girlfriend Wednesday night has been arrested and is being held without bail in the Cumberland County Jail.

Edward Eric Farrell, 36, of 69 Thomas Pond Terrace is charged with aggravated domestic assault, theft by unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving after license suspension.

Police said Farrell is being held without bail because he was on probation for a previous domestic violence assault.

Capt. Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that deputies were called to the home on Thomas Pond Terrace around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a report of a domestic violence assault. By the time they arrived, Farrell had fled from the property.

Around 10:30 p.m., an 11-year-old boy called the sheriff’s office to report that Farrell had returned to the home and was “assaulting and choking” a woman. Once again, Farrell ran away by the time deputies arrived. A manhunt with a police dog began.
