Hussey Elementary School in Berwick is closed Thursday because of a water main break.
Crews were at the school tearing up the parking lot as they worked to fix the break, which is on the edge of school property. The school’s maintenance director found the parking lot flooded when he arrived at the school around 6:30 a.m., said Susan Austin, assistant superintendent.
Austin said it does not appear that any water got into the building.
“The only issue we have is that we don’t have water and will have to flush our system,” she said.
After the system is flushed, officials will have the water tested to make sure it is safe for students. Austin expects school will reopen on Friday.
Hussey serves 380 students in kindergarten through third grade.
