The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying more than 140 items that it says were stolen from summer homes and camps by a prolific burglary suspect, Brian Bennett, 36, of Waldoboro.

Lt. Michael Murphy said in a press release that his department has recovered dozens of items that were stolen in home break-ins in the period from Sept. 20 to Nov. 3 in South Bristol, Jefferson and Nobleboro.

Police are asking homeowners and caretakers to check for missing items and report any losses to the sheriff’s office.

“It is likely many locations these items were taken from will not be discovered until seasonal residents return in the Spring,” Murphy said.

Bennett was arrested this month after an overnight standoff with police in Waldoboro that lasted more than nine hours. Police used tear gas and neighbors were evacuated, but no shots were fired.

Police had been searching for Bennett since September, when he evaded arrest by escaping through a hole in the floor of his house on Flanders Road. He was wanted on several warrants in connection with burglaries involving firearms.

Anyone with questions regarding the stolen property should contact Detective Sgt. Ron Rollins at 882-7332.
