Tree lighting, crafts for kids

The annual tree lighting ceremony and events will be held Saturday afternoon at Otisfield Community Hall, 292 Oxford Road.

From 2 to 4 p.m. there will be “Make It Take It” craft activities for children. Each craft costs 25 cents.

Santa arrives at 4:30 p.m. for the lighting of the tree and to sing carols. While kids visit with Santa and have a picture taken, cookies and hot chocolate will be served.

There will be a bake sale and raffles. Proceeds will be donated to the Otisfield Community School.

Lionel Train Day Saturday

The second annual National Lionel Train Day is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Model Train and Slot Car Shop, 891 U.S. Route 1.

There will be operating Lionel train layouts, Lionel wristbands, stickers and other items available for kids, and a National Lionel Train Day boxcar collectible piece that is available for pre-order only on Saturday.

DAR at Veterans’ Home

Members of Rebecca Emery Chapter DAR will meet at noon Saturday at the Maine Veterans’ Home, 290 Route 1, for a luncheon and business meeting. After the meeting there will be a time of fellowship with residents in appreciation for their service.

Portland Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’

Ogunquit Performing Arts will celebrate the holiday season with a performance by the Portland Ballet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Dunaway Center, 23 School St.

The presentation will feature excerpts from “The Victorian Nutcracker,” the company’s production of Tchaikovsky’s ballet. Children are welcome and will be invited onstage to dance with the dancers after the program.

The performance will take about an hour with time afterwards for children to interact with the dancers and enjoy a reception with refreshments.

Admission is $5. There will be no advance sales.

Gorman photography exhibit

The exhibition “In and Around Southern Maine and Beyond” featuring photography by Karenlee Gorman will be on display in December in the Speers Gallery at the Kennebunk Free Library, 112 Main St.

Featured in the Parish Hall adjacent to the church will be handmade items with a Maine theme, holiday greens, vintage and collectibles, books, quilts, crafts, jewelry, homemade baked goods, candy and cookies.
