The New England Patriots agreed to a five-year contracted extension with right tackle Marcus Cannon, according to an ESPN.com report.

Cannon is in his sixth year with the Patriots and in his first season as a full-time starter, playing in place of injured veteran Sebastian Vollmer.

Cannon was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The Patriots drafted Cannon in 2011 out of Texas Christian and gave him a two-year extension in 2014.

He has started 10 of the Patriots’ 11 games this season at right tackle.

GIANTS: Peyton Manning finally found some time in retirement to get together with little brother Eli.

Peyton showed up at the Giants’ walk-through workout and discussed football, sat through part of a quarterbacks’ meeting and talked about playing against the Steelers, New York’s opponent this weekend in Pittsburgh.

Eli Manning was unaware his brother was going to show up at the team’s facility, but he noted it was nice to see him.

The Giants (8-3) have won six straight games – their longest streak since 2008 – and have a great chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

VIKINGS: Running back Adrian Peterson is moving forward in the recovery from surgery on his right knee.

Peterson was seen running some short sprints in the team’s indoor facility while the athletic training staff supervised and his teammates went through practice on the field. With five games remaining in the regular season, there’s no timetable for Peterson’s return, but the four-time All-Pro pick could be ready sometime in December.

Panthers: Carolina placed two-time All-Pro center Ryan Kalil and his primary backup Gino Gradkowski on injured reserve, further weakening an offensive line that has been decimated by injuries this season.

Carolina signed free-agent center Ryan Wendell and offensive tackle Dan France from the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad to fill out the 53-man roster.

BILLS: The NFL suspended offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson for 10 games for what the player’s agent tells The Associated Press stems from his client using marijuana to relieve the effects of Crohn’s disease.

It’s Henderson’s second suspension this year after he served a four-game ban to start the season.

BROWNS: Robert Griffin III has been cleared by doctors to play again this season. RG3 still needs Coach Hue Jackson’s blessing.

Griffin passed a final medical test on his injured left shoulder and can now take full contact, paving the way for the quarterback to play on Dec. 11 when the winless Browns return from a bye week against Cincinnati.

Griffin hasn’t played since the season opener – his debut for Cleveland – when he broke a bone in his shoulder while scrambling in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
