BOSTON — Regan McFerran sank a layup three seconds into the game Thursday night, starting a 21-point run that helped St. Joseph’s College to a 72-36 victory against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball opener.

Kelsi McNamara led the Monks (4-1) with 16 points. Julia Champagne and Abbie Eastman added 13 each, and Emily Benway scored 10.

The Monks led 26-3 after the first period, 42-9 at the half and by as much as 41 points in the second half against the Lasers (2-4).

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 61, NEW HAMPSIRE TI 52: Jennifer Conrad had 24 points and 12 rebounds to power Southern Maine CC (9-0, 4-0 Yankee Small College) past the Lynx (7-4, 4-2) in Concord, New Hampshire.

Hannah Heald added 14 points and eight rebounds for the SeaWolves, who used a 25-6 run to open a 42-23 lead early in the third quarter.

(2) CONNECTICUT 91, (15) DEPAUL 46: Kia Nurse scored a career-high 33 points and UConn (6-0) routed DePaul (5-2) at Storrs, Connecticut, for its 81st straight victory.

(3) SOUTH CAROLINA 76, (14) TEXAS 67: A’ja Wilson scored a career-best 31 points and had 12 rebounds to help NoSouth Carolina (6-0) beat Texas (2-3) at Austin, Texas.

(4) BAYLOR 79, ALILENE CHRISTIAN 34: Nina Davis scored 18 points and Baylor (8-1) stretched its home winning streak to 46 games, beating Abilene Christian (3-4) at Waco, Texas.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 75, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 54: Sean Gilmore scored eight points, and Maximilian Steiner added a 2-pointer and a 3-pointer during a 21-4 run as the Mules (4-2) opened a 69-45 lead with 3:49 left against the Mariners (1-4) at Waterville.

Patrick Stewart paced Colby with 18 points. Steiner finished with 15 and Gilmore 13. Brendan Newcomb led Maine Maritime with 18.

NEW HAMPSHIRE TI 72, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 56: Javan Parkinson netted seven points and Joe Simpson six as the Lynx (9-2, 3-1 Yankee Small College) closed the first half with a 20-6 run to open a 33-26 lead against SMCC (8-2, 3-1) at Concord, New Hampshire.

Dylan Silvestri dropped in 11 for and Chase Soares 10 for the SeaWolves.

(8) GONZAGA 97, MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE 63: Josh Perkins and Silas Melson had 15 points apiece as Gonzaga (7-0) beat Mississippi Valley State (0-9) at Spokane, Washington.

CINCINNATI 55, (19) IOWA STATE 54: Jacob Evans III made two free throws with 20 seconds left in overtime and Cincinnati (6-1) upset Iowa State (5-2) at Ames, Iowa, the Cyclones’ second straight loss.

(20) SOUTH CAROLINA 68, VERMONT 50: P.J. Dozier had a career-high 21 points and South Carolina improved to 7-0 for a second straight season with a victory against Vermont (6-3) at Columbia, South Carolina.

(24) FLORIDA 91, NORTH FLORIDA 60: Chris Chiozza had 16 points and nine assists, and Justin Leon added 13 points as Florida (7-1) handled North Florida (3-6) at Jacksonville, Florida.

MEN’S HOCKEY

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 8, SUFFOLK 0: Trevor Fleurent, who started the game with three goals on the season, upped that total to seven before the end of the first period as the Nor’easters (4-3-1, 4-2-1 Commonealth Coast) opened a 5-0 lead against Suffolk (3-6-2, 1-5-1) at Biddeford.

Fleurent opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game, then sandwiched a pair of goals around one by Samuel Michaud before added his final goal with 37 seconds remaining in the period.
