I was very disappointed to see the Press Herald give Donald Trump’s recent tweet about jailing flag-burners such extended attention.
Front-page coverage and a lengthy article (“Trump call to jail U.S. flag-burners sparks push-back,” Nov. 30) are way more than what such an inane statement should have received.
Trump’s tweets are often provocative, ill-reasoned and exaggerations (if not outright lies), and paying attention to them to such a degree only serves to give them undeserved credibility and to amplify their influence.
There’s plenty of real news to report about Trump. Let’s leave his tweets to wither in cyberspace.
