Over 700 attend event for Dream Factory of Maine

The Dream Factory of Maine and Haven’s Candies in Westbrook played host Nov. 26 for a fun-filled day with more than 700 children and adults to raise money and awareness for the Dream Factory of Maine, a volunteer organization that grants dreams to chronically and critically ill children in Maine.

More than $15,000 was raised. Several local companies sponsored the event, including Haven’s Candies, Tyler Technologies, Maine Marathon, The Peterson Family Charitable Fund, Modern Woodmen Financial, Volk Packaging, Perkins Thompson, Saco & Biddeford Savings, Cintas, OffTech New England, Cunningham Security, Katahdin Trust, Machias Savings Bank and Hutchins Trucking Co.

Special guests included Kenny Tuttle and his family from Gorham. When he was 17 years old, Kenny was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and underwent chemotherapy and radiation.

An avid golfer, Kenny’s dream came true: A trip to Florida with his family and a chance to play golf with his idol Keegan Bradley.

Cancer Society sponsoring letters-from-Santa fundraiser

The American Cancer Society in Maine is heading a new seasonal fundraiser campaign featuring personalized letters from the North Pole.

For a donation of $5 or more, children and those who are young at heart will receive a personalized letter from Santa.

A “Letter from Santa” order form asks for some details about each recipient, such as their teacher, siblings, pet names, and the one gift they want most from Santa. This allows Santa to truly personalize each letter. Parents don’t need to worry – Santa will never promise to deliver any specific gift.

All proceeds from sales benefit the annual Relay For Life campaign in Maine.
