Regarding the article your paper printed on Michael A. Liberty, the investor (“SEC charges Liberty hid funds to cut size of fine,” Page 1, Nov. 30):

I have followed the man for many years. As a young man, he was so enterprising. Where did he go wrong?

The article said he pleaded for leniency to the Securities and Exchange Commission for the money he owes to settle allegations of committing a crime (investment fraud). What is the difference if you rob a bank or divest people from their life savings? And now he wants to walk away. How sad!

Mr. Liberty needs to be treated as a thief in the night. He needs to be on bread and water for a long time. The charge: crime against humanity. There are other names that he could inherit.

Throw the lawbooks at this man, who makes Maine look so bad.
