An Ellsworth woman escaped serious injury after being shot in the head by a friend Saturday, according to police.
Ellsworth Police Chief Peter Bickmore said the woman was visiting Lawrence Romer, 47, at his home when his .32-caliber revolver accidentally went off at about 5 p.m. A bullet grazed her head but did not enter her skull. She was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and flown to Eastern Maine Medial Center in Bangor, where she as treated and released. Police withheld her name.
“She was very lucky,” said Bickmore.
Romer was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. He is at the Hancock County Jail on $2,500 bail.
The shooting remains under investigation, said Bickmore.
