A former Brunswick police officer who has pleaded guilty to sending obscene material to a minor girl will be sentenced next month in U.S. District Court in Portland.
Garrett G. Brosnan, 25, will be sentenced at 10 a.m. Jan. 11, according to federal court records. U.S. District Judge Jon D. Levy will preside over the hearing. Attorneys for Brosnan and the government held a presentence conference on Tuesday.
In September, Brosnan agreed to waive indictment and pleaded guilty to the charge. He faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
In court documents, prosecutors, said that if the case were to go to trial the government could prove that in October 2015 Brosnan engaged in an online conversation that was sexual in nature with a 13-year-old Arizona girl. A Department of Homeland Security agent became involved after the girl’s parents notified authorities. Brosnan sent pictures of his genitals to the agent in June.
Brosnan resigned from the Brunswick Police Department in June, according to Police Chief Richard Rizzo.
