A man died early Saturday morning in a fire that destroyed his house in Turner, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

“The fire was reported around 2 a.m. on Jordan Lane, near the Hannaford store,” said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. “The body was discovered in the rubble of the home.”

The man was identified Saturday evening as John Jordan, 69, who lived alone in the house, McCausland said.

He said investigators are unlikely to be able to determine the cause of the fire because the two-story house was “flattened” in the fire.
