MACHIAS — A jury says a 35-year-old man is guilty of killing a couple and setting their home on fire in northern Maine.
Prosecutors say Matthew Davis of Houlton shot 49-year-old Heidi Pratt and then 51-year-old Michael Kitchen before setting the home on fire in Oakfield in 2013. WABI-TV reports the jury came back with a verdict on Thursday morning about an hour into the third day of deliberating.
The jury reached a partial verdict on Wednesday in which it convicted Davis of three counts of theft, four counts of arson and a charge of aggravated criminal mischief. It found him guilty of two murder counts on Thursday.
The trial was moved to Washington County Superior Court in Machias after a judge was unable to seat a jury in Aroostook County.
