ILLUMINATED BY FLICKERING CANDLELIGHT and serenaded by choirs and congregations singing hymns, Christians throughout Maine attended Christmas Eve church services Saturday evening. Most churches are also adding extra services Sunday as the holiday season hits its peak. This year, Christmas coincides with the eight-day Jewish celebration of Hanukkah, which began Saturday night.
