A section of Route 22 in Buxton was closed for hours Tuesday after a full oil truck overturned and spilled fuel in the area.

A fuel truck owned by Fielding’s Oil and Propane turned over on its side after sliding on ice around 8:30 a.m. Between 5 and 10 gallons of heating oil spilled in the area, according to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

Route 22 was closed between Haines Meadow Road and Skip Road until early afternoon, according to an emergency dispatcher. No injuries were reported.

Before the overturned truck could be towed away, Fielding’s pumped about 2,500 gallons of fuel into a second truck.

A crew from the DEP was on the scene Tuesday afternoon as the spilled fuel was cleaned up.
