NEW ORLEANS — Kolby Morgan and Leslie Vorpahl combined for 50 points Wednesday to lead Tulane to a 77-62 victory against Maine in a nonconference women’s basketball game.

Morgan shot 11 of 17 from the field to lead Tulane (9-4) with 26 points. Vorpahl scored 24, shooting 3 of 3 on 3-pointers and adding 11 assists.

Sigi Koizar led Maine (7-7) with 24 points, shooting 6 of 11 from long range.

Koizar nailed a 3-pointer with 3:46 remaining in the first half to put the Black Bears ahead 34-25. Tulane outscored Maine 52-28 the rest of the way.

(5) MISSISSIPPI STATE 106, NORTHWESTERN STATE 30: Victoria Vivians had 22 points, Breanna Richardson added 21 and Mississippi State (14-0) cruised over Northwestern State (6-5) at Starkville, Mississippi.

(13) STANFORD 102, YALE 44: Karlie Samuelson made four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, Erica McCall had 19 points and six rebounds, and Stanford (10-2) beat visiting Yale (8-4).

(14) OHIO STATE 87, MINNESOTA 62: Kelsey Mitchell hit five 3-pointers, scored 23 points and had six assists to lead Ohio State (11-4) over Minnesota (9-5) in a Big Ten opener at Columbus, Ohio.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 69, ANNA MARIA 59: The Polar Bears (6-3) finished on a 16-7 run and defeated the Amcats (2-7) at Brunswick.

Jack Simonds led Bowdoin with 15 points, shooting 3 of 7 on 3-pointers. Hugh O’Neil added 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

(1) VILLANOVA 68, DEPAUL 65: Josh Hart scored 25 points and Jalen Brunson added 13 as Villanova (13-0) won its 19th straight game, barely holding off visiting DePaul (7-7) in a Big East opener.

(12) VIRGINIA 61, (6) LOUISVILLE 53: Devon Hall scored 10 points and Kyle Guy added a key jumper with 2:02 remaining as visiting Virginia (11-1) withstood a late rally to upset Louisville (11-2) in an Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

(9) NORTH CAROLINA 102, MONMOUTH 74: Justin Jackson scored 28 points and North Carolina (12-2) beat Monmouth (10-3) at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

(10) CREIGHTON 89, SETON HALL 75: Maurice Watson had 21 points and 10 assists, and the Bluejays (13-0) opened Big East play by beating Seton Hall (10-3) at Omaha, Nebraska.

NEBRASKA 87, (16) INDIANA 83: Glynn Watson Jr. scored 26 points and Tai Webster had 21, leading Nebraska (7-6) to an upset of Indiana (10-3) in a Big Ten opener at Bloomington, Indiana.

(17) XAVIER 82, PROVIDENCE 56: Trevon Bluiett scored 22 points, Xavier (11-2)took control at the outset and beat Providence (10-4) in their Big East opener at Cincinnati.

(20) FLORIDA STATE 88, WAKE FOREST 72: Dwayne Bacon and Xavier Rathan-Mayes scored 23 points apiece as Florida State (12-1) opened Atlantic Coast Conference play by beating Wake Forest (9-3) at Tallahassee, Florida.

(24) NOTRE DAME 63, SAINT PETER’S 55: V.J. Beachem scored 18 points to help Notre Dame (11-2) close out its nonconference schedule with a victory over Saint Peter’s (5-7) at South Bend, Indiana.

FOOTBALL

NORTHWESTERN 31, (22) PITTSBURGH 24: Justin Jackson ran for 226 yards and three touchdowns and powered Northwestern (7-6) over Pittsburgh (8-5) in the Pinstripe Bowl at New York.

MIAMI 31, (14) WEST VIRGINIA 14: Brad Kaaya threw four touchdown passes, and Miami (9-4) snapped a 10-year bowl drought by beating West Virginia (10-3) in the Russell Athletic Bowl at Orlando, Florida.
