The State Fire Marshal’s Office says Barry Cain, 65, of Pownal died early Friday in a fire that destroyed his home.

The fire was reported around 1 a.m. at a house on Elmwood Road, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The body was located just before dawn in an apartment above the garage, McCausland said.

Investigators suspect the fire was weather-related because the electric power had gone out and Cain was known to use alternative sources of heat to keep warm, but the exact cause of the fire was not immediately determined, McCausland said.
