A 65-year-old man was killed and four people were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Route 202 in Windham Friday afternoon.

Windham police said the 5 p.m. crash killed Dennis Brackley of New Gloucester. His two passengers, ages 4 and 5, were taken to Maine Medical Center and were in critical condition Friday night, Windham Police Sgt. William Andrew said.

Andrew said he didn’t know the relationship of the children to Brackley and police are unsure of why Brackley’s minivan crossed the center line.

Andrew said Brackley was driving a Dodge Caravan west on Route 202, also known as Gray Road, when the minivan crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Nissan Rogue driven by Adrian King, 33, of Windham near the intersection with William Knight Road.

King was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Friday night, Andrew said. King’s passenger, Samantha-Jo Brink, also was taken to Maine Med and was in serious condition, Andrew said.

There are no charges pending, Andrew said, and the crash is under investigation by Windham police.

A portion of Route 202 was closed for more than two hours while police and ambulances went to the scene.
