A Rhode Island man was killed over the weekend when he failed to negotiate a curve in a trail and crashed into a stand of trees.
Edmond D. Imondi, 53, of Foster, Rhode Island, was riding with two friends along a groomed trail west of Millinocket Lake in T1 R9 WELS about 5:43 p.m. Saturday when he rode straight into the trees, the Maine Warden Service said Tuesday.
Imondi was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, but early indicators show speed and unfamiliarity with the trails were contributing factors, authorities said.
The death was the third snowmobile-related fatality this season.
