1140505_334057 Pierce2.jpgSpencer Pierce, Falmouth ice hockey: The junior goalkeeper stopped 48 shots for Falmouth on Monday night as the Yachtsmen rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the defending Class A state champion, Lewiston, 3-2. The loss was the first for Lewiston.

HONORABLE MENTION

Mike Gilman, Windham basketball: Scored a game-high 31 points – including seven 3-pointers – to help the Eagles win at Sanford, 67-60. Gilman also had a team-high 23 points in a 75-53 win at Noble and 21 in a win against Massabesic.

Jarett Flaker, Scarborough track: The freshman won the 200 in a state-leading time of 23.45 seconds and captured the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 10.75 inches at an SMAA meet on Jan. 14.

Axel Lindsay, Greely Alpine skiing: A senior, Lindsay turned in the fastest runs in both heats to win a WMC slalom race Monday involving Falmouth, Kennebunk, Gray-New Gloucester, Wells and Lake Region.

1140505_334057 Varney2.jpgEwka Varney, Deering Nordic skiing: A senior, Varney was the individual winner from a field of 106 at the Leavitt Hornet Relays held Saturday in Turner. She completed the 5K course in 16 minutes, 1.6 seconds.

HONORABLE MENTION

Emma Gallant, Cheverus track: At an SMAA meet Jan. 14, the freshman sprinter won the 400 in a state-leading time of 1 minute flat and captured the 200 in 27.07 seconds.

Nina Howe, York, freshman guard: Howe helped the Wildcats extend their win streak to nine games, scoring 12 points in a 44-38 win over Falmouth. She followed with 17 points in a 29-27 win over Westbrook.

Page Brown, Boothbay Region, junior forward: Brown scored 27 points in a 56-29 win over Oak Hill and 37 in a 58-35 win over Winthrop.
