Now Patriots fans everywhere can sing Tom Brady’s praises, literally.
A parody song called “Brady Pull Me Closer” by Connecticut singer-songwriter Ian Biggs is going around the internet right now. It’s written to the tune of “Closer,” which was a No. 1 pop hit in 2016 for Freeport native Drew Taggart.
Taggart, 26, is one half of the electronic music duo The Chainsmokers. Propelled by the success of “Closer,” the duo is up for three Grammy Awards this year, including best new artist, best dance recording and best pop duo/group performance. The Grammy Awards will be given out Feb. 12 on CBS.
The Brady parody is the product of a Connecticut trio. It was written by Ian Cunningham and sung mostly by singer-songwriter Biggs, with help from college student Sarah Gonzalez.
The original song has a thumping beat and complicated rhyme scheme, and it’s about a complicated romantic relationship. The Brady parody, about fans’ uncomplicated love for No. 12, rhymes about the quarterback, his team, and an eventual Super Bowl win:
“So Brady pull me closer to more Super Bowl exposure; Raise that MVP award while you’re hoisted on our shoulders; Throw that pass that beats the corner off the pump fake that you sold; To your teammate Amendola, TD Edelman it’s over.”
Neither Biggs nor Taggart could be reached immediately for comment on the Brady parody.
