FALMOUTH — Colin Coyne scored 10 second-quarter points to help Falmouth surge ahead in a 60-44 Class A South boys’ basketball victory over Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday night.

The Yachtsmen (13-4) used a 20-10 run to go up 32-24 at halftime and held off the Capers (10-7) throughout the second half.

Coyne finished with 25 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and dished out 11 assists. Sean Walsh scored 19 points.

Andrew Hartel led Cape Elizabeth with 16 points. Quinn Hewitt hit two buckets from behind the arc and finished with 12 points.

PORTLAND 69, CHEVERUS 46: Terion Moss scored 25 points and the host Bulldogs (16-2) posted a 37-18 second-half advantage on their way to defeating the Stags (11-7).

Moss connected on three 3-pointers and added eight rebounds.

Jack Casale led Cheverus with 18 points.

YARMOUTH 79, LAKE REGION 40: Nolan Hagerty had 12 points during a 27-13 first-quarter run, and the Clippers (15-2) used a 28-5 second-quarter advantage to pull away from the Lakers (8-9) at Yarmouth.

Hagerty finished with 18 points. Gibson Harnett scored all of his 16 points in the first half, while Aleksander Medenica added 12 points and Najee McQueen 10.

Tyler Walker led Lake Region with 21 points, while Luke Porter contributed 10.

WAYNFLETE 59, TRAIP ACADEMY 29: Jack Meahl scored 10 of his game-high 13 points in the second half as the Flyers (12-5) pulled away from the Rangers (6-11) in Kittery.

Christian Brooks scored 12 points and Alex Saade added 11 for the Flyers, who outscored the Rangers 31-10 in the second half.

Dalen Hubbard scored 10 points to lead Traip Academy.

WESTBROOK 53, BIDDEFORD 44: Landon Sjoberg scored nine of his 13 points in the third quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, helping the Blue Blazes (13-5) get past the Tigers (8-9) in Biddeford.

Zac Manoogian also had 13 points and Kyle Champagne scored 12 for Westbrook, which outscored Biddeford 15-8 in the third to take a 35-30 lead.

Patrick Pearl scored 12 points for the Tigers.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 79, TEMPLE ACADEMY 52: Chandler Waldron and Miles Chapman each scored 20 points, and the Panthers (12-5) held a 46-24 lead at the half in a win over the Bereans (8-10) in Yarmouth.

Waldron hit six 3-pointers and scored all 20 of his points in the first half. Te’Andre King added 18 points for the Panthers.

Bradley Smith led Temple Academy with 24 points.

MASSABESIC 73, NOBLE 65: Nick Amabile hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Mustangs (2-15) used a 23-13 run to open an 18-point lead against the Knights (0-17) at Waterboro.

Zion Mercado had 30 points and grabbed 12 boards for Massabesic, while Amabile finished with 26 points.

Zach Deroches and Brandon Davis combined for three quick 3-pointers for Noble early in the fourth quarter to halve the deficit but the Mustangs were able to quell the rally. Deroches finished with 19 points, while Davis added 18 and James Hashem 13.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 72, FREEPORT 33: John Henry Villanueva scored 12 of his 19 points during the first half as the Patriots (8-9) opened a 29-14 halftime lead over Freeport (5-12) in Gray.

John Martin added 16 points for Gray-New Gloucester, Josiah Rottari had 11 and Hunter Colby 10.

Connor Dostie and Eriksen Shea each scored eight for the Falcons.

WELLS 82, POLAND 56: Deandre Woods scored 22 points and the Warriors (13-4) cruised to a victory over the Knights (6-11) in Wells.

The Warriors had five players score in double figures, including Riley Dempsey, who had 16 points, and Tyler Dewey, who added 12 on four 3-pointers.

Kurtis Leighton led the Knights with 20 points, connecting on four 3-pointers.

WINTHROP 55, HALL-DALE 51: Jacob Hickey scored 19 points, grabbed six boards and dished out six assists to lead the Ramblers (18-0) past the Bulldogs (13-5) at Winthrop.

Jett Boyer hit four baskets from behind the arc and finished with 16 points for Hall-Dale.

HOCKEY

GREELY 5, GARDINER 4: Jack Saffian scored the go-ahead goal with 1:10 remaining, just six seconds after Ben Kennedy’s tying goal, and the Rangers (7-5) battled back from a 4-2 third-period deficit to beat the Tigers (9-4) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

Matthew Kramlich started Greely’s rally with 5:27 remaining.

Ryan Megathlin and Andrew Moore also scored for the Rangers.

Ryan Kelley had a goal and two assists for Gardiner, while Tanner Hebert, Joe Clark and Connor Manter each added a goal.

CAPE ELIZABETH 3, MARANACOOK/WINTHROP 2: Chris Laprade and Matthew Laughlin scored 42 seconds apart for a 2-1 first-period lead, Jack Roy-Becker added a second-period goal and Cape Elizabeth (9-4) held on to beat the Black Bears (0-14) in Kents Hill.

Bailey Stockford scored from Matt Ingram 54 seconds into the game for a Maranacook lead. Laprade tied the game at 5:47, with Laughlin scoring the go-ahead goal at 6:29.

After the Capers extended the lead to 3-1, Dan Shea tallied in the opening minute of the third period to make it a one-goal game.

Will Hays kept the game close with 47 saves for the Black Bears, and Ingram finished with two assists. Peter Haber made 12 stops for Cape Elizabeth.
