A Swanville man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to time served after spending 10 months in prison for unlawful possession of a variety of firearms.

John T. Hines, 50, pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 30, 2016, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said in a news release Friday.

Two Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies had gone to Hines’ home to investigate a neighbor’s complaint of hearing gunfire coming from the property. They found Hines in possession of a .357 Ruger revolver, two rifles and a shotgun.

Hines was prohibited under federal law from possessing any firearms because he had previously been convicted of domestic violence assault, a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, the release said.

An investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office that ultimately led to the guilty plea, it said.
