Four children were evacuated to safety from a Naples home during a domestic violence incident Friday.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s office responded to the home on Lambs Mill Road at 11:20 p.m. Friday after a child in the home called police to report a domestic disturbance.

A man had armed himself with a handgun when deputies arrived. The deputies were able to evacuate the children while the man, Brian Horton, 39, of Naples positioned himself with the gun and his girlfriend on the floor, police said.

Deputies tried to negotiate with the man as a brief and intense standoff continued, police said. The girlfriend managed to get the gun away from Horton and deputies converged on Horton. Deputies used a stunning device to bring Horton under control.

Horton was taken for treatment to Maine Medical Center and is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail.

He was charged with domestic violence terrorizing, domestic violence assault on a 15-year-old daughter, aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and refusing to submit to arrest.
