A former teacher who admitted committing a sex crime against a student at Mount View High School in Thorndike will be on probation for a year.

Aaron Clark, 37, of Etna, was sentenced at Waldo County Unified Criminal Court on Monday to 364 days in jail, with all of the jail time suspended as part of a plea deal.

Clark had pleaded guilty on Feb. 6 to a charge of unlawful sexual touching. Assistant District Attorney William Entwisle said his office was “in consultation with the victim throughout” the process, and that both the state and the victim were satisfied with the outcome.

“To his credit, the defendant was willing to enter into a plea,” Entwisle said, adding that the agreement to place Clark on probation also recognizes what the state had the power to do.

As part of his probation, Clark also will have to take part in counseling. He will not be allowed any contact with the victim, Entwisle said.

“The victim was fully supportive of what we did,” he said.

Under the plea agreement, Clark will not have to register as a sex offender.

Clark was arrested June 8 at the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Belfast on class D misdemeanor charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching. School officials went to the police after a parent complained about Clark, Entwisle said previously. It was not clear Wednesday when the offenses occurred.

Clark resigned from his position as a mathematics teacher at the school, which he’d held since 2008, the day after he was charged.
