Rosen’s Deli has closed its new location in Westbrook, which apparently didn’t work out the way owner David Rosen had hoped.

Once known as Full Belly Deli, the Portland area’s only Jewish deli closed its Brighton Avenue location in January 2015 after 28 years of serving up pastrami and pickles, the victim of increasing rents and competition.

Three months later, Rosen announced that he would re-open the restaurant on Main Street in Westbrook and call it simply Rosen’s Deli.

Now, a year and a half later, the deli has closed again. Customers noticed locked doors in February, and then the phone was cut off. David Rosen did not return repeated calls for comment.

Abigail Cioffi, executive director of the Downtown Westbrook Coalition, said the space at 650 Main St. is for lease and several businesses, including restaurants, have been looking at it.
