A Mexican man pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to being in the U.S. after he was ordered deported in 2010.

Presiliano Gonzalez Berruete, 53, tried to enter Canada in February at a border crossing in Woodstock, New Brunswick. Canadian officials refused him entry and turned him over to U.S. officials, who determined that he had been convicted of felony drug trafficking in Kansas in 2010. After serving time for that crime, he had been ordered deported to Mexico.

According to court officials, Berruete snuck back across the border sometime after his deportation and was in the country illegally.

He pleaded guilty Friday to being an alien found in the U.S. after having been removed and deported.

Berrute will be sentenced at a future date. After he serves his time, he likely will be deported again, officials said.
